My girlfriend has type 1 diabetes. She nearly went into a diabetic coma when she was 11.
Type two isn't worse than type one, from what I understand. Type one generally means your pancreas doesn't work at all. There's a few supposed cures out there that don't involve using surgery if you're interested.
Goto an indian/herb store and buy an herb called Fenugreek, you might recognize the taste it's used to make immitation maple syrup. Fenugreek is supposed to have a very stimulating effect on the pancreas, along with the ability to control blood sugar. Essentially, before insulin, that's what was used(and somewhat successfully).
In general, according to certain holistic sciences that used to treat diabetes, you should attempt to eat fruits/veggies that are bitter or pungent. There's a vegetable called "Bitter melon" that is supposed to be good for diabetics, however, it tastes like shit so it'd be best if you found some decent recipes for it.
None of that is telling you to stop taking your insulin. Don't, under any condition, do that. However, I think it would be interesting to see what happens if you tried them and tested your blood as well. My girlfriend doesn't do that. Let me know if you try either of those, i could find some other stuff to try.
P.S. DO NOT GET AN INSULIN PUMP THEY HAVE MANY, MANY COMPLICATIONS ACCORDING TO MY GIRLFRIEND. Stick with whatever you are doing now.
