i saw a watchdog episode where they talked about this, after they got complaints from customers, watchdog went to the makers for a explanation to why they were so shit, to which McD's responded:
'its not meant for the perfect creation of mcflurries, but for a simulation of the experience'
(hardly a quote since i saw the programme over 3 years ago, but that was the jist of it)
