I think Dan Brown did a good job over all, spreading the word to the masses about the concept of a church built on false beliefs and misinterpretations, and moreover giving some credit to the women in the bible.
Anything that can help loosen up the very strict and conservative view on the bible as an absolute truth is good in my humble opinion.
It's not, however, very good literature, nor is it an original idea. I recommend Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco, which is far superior literature, and still not at all claming to present any original ideas.
