Yeah In Halo Chaif is a SPARTAN II, hes just a guy who was taken from his parents as a child, and trained into adulthood, then they grafted metal to his bones and steroided the shit out of him (and the other dosen or so)
Also the marathon logo appears all over Halo, In Halo 1 Guilty sparks eye is an alteration of the marathon logo. I'm certain the Marathon references are just a tribute to the game
Oh and Chojin your little blurb there is as of October 1999 when Halo was a 3rd person shooter for the mac, the game underwent an almost total re-start between 99 and 2001
