I don't think Americans of any economic class could handle a draft. Like the article says, we have become content to be spectators in this fight rather than active participants.

A volunteer army will always be the best. There are other ways though to create domestic investment in the war effort. Energy reform, gas taxes, and increasing funding in programs like AmeriCorps might help.
