know I can't commit to anything as consistent as regularly keeping up with this thread. It's just luck that I happened on that comment. BUT, my reply is that today I went to an appointment with an emeritus Germanic Studies professor (he's a student advocate) and after the professor and I talked in German for a short while he asked my dad if he understood any of it (he asked
auf deutsch and my dad was like NO! So the professor asked why I hadn't ever bothered to teach my father any German.
