You see, right now you're a baby alligator. It's a big world out there, and there's a lot of danger lurking about. Not only do you have to deal with birds and snapping turtles, but you have to deal with other alligators, too. It's an exploratory phase right now. You need to figure out how things work, what your prey is, and what to watch out for. If you get too close to the bigger critters, you'll end up as an evolutionary miscarriage.

But, if you keep your head down, stay in the shadows, and keep gobbling up insects and tadpoles, then someday you too, might be able to be Not Universally Hated.
