Seth, have you ever read any of the "Conversations With God" series by Neale Donald Walsch? In it, he discusses the very point you just made (re: Jealousy of God). I'm not like a mindless zealot of his work and I'm not trying to push anything on you. I just thought that it was an interesting read. If you're interested, here's a link to an interview with the author that pretty much captures his basic premise.
