I just skimmed it because my attention span isn't what it needs to be, but...

"The late Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci wrote an angry anti-Muslim book, meant to waken the West to the gravity of the threat posed by Islam. Her prosecution in Italy for writing the book was pending when she died in October."

She died? Finally.

I've been to an extremely activist school and an extremely apathetic school. Both have their ironies; Chicago is decidedly liberal and it's extremely visible because of the eponymous conservative nature of its heritage, while Indiana is a fair balance that is seldom realized because the city itself is an impregnable bastion of Hoosier (new) liberalism. A Chicago news stand would have well-established papers for sale tauting the opinions of conservative faculty, while right next to it copies of Redeye (a city-wide Marxist paper) were being given away financed by student donations.

I think about a year ago I made a post about how some students raided a chapel for a sociology experiment asking people to sell their souls for a dollar, to the point that they were being flagrantly disruptive of the people trying to worship in silence. My friend bitched about it in LJ, and the reaction was a whole bunch of nonsense about free speech. She had posted about it in the CITY livejournal community, the faculty responsible for the project asked that she remove it. Too bad that she complied, though.

Aside from that, I think this subject is just a pain in the ass. Both sides of the spectrum are quite capable of pissing me off, so it's hard for me to take a stance.
