Sax: Charlie Parker, Coltrane
Bass: Stanley Clarke, Jaco Pastorius
Piano: Thelonious Monk
Guitar: Wes Montgomery, Lee Ritenour
Big Band: Cab Calloway, Dizzy Gillespie
Those are some of the best IMHO but it's all relative, really. It's really a question of experimentation. That's why I originally suggested getting a sampler CD to find out what interests you.
