Might make it worse unless you do it properly.
You'd need to actually remove the heat sink, clean off all the existing paste/grease and apply a fresh layer of better stuff (Arctic Silver 5 is a good choice). This will probably help as many pre-built systems come with poor quality thermal paste, poorly applied.

It's definitely something worth trying but don't expect miracles.
