I saw that too. Zom's right, the picture of treeman is old; he had reconstructive/removal surgery and can now use his hands. He still does not look "normal" but he can function in his society, which is a HUGE improvement.
And, yes Willie, bathing in Compound W comes to mind when looking at his affliction. Ouch!
