So I stumbled into this article this morning while doing my daily news search

I have to say, I think this statement is a bit unfair though

I disagree. Silva's one and only job is to win the fight. It doesn't get more "bottom line" than that. You want stars who are responsible for "putting on a show"? Then take it to pro wrestling. Real fights are not always going to be pretty. If the fight stinks because UFC set him up with a man who clearly fears getting hit, then the bad show is their fault. Why do you think Dana White apologized to the fans? This was a fumble caused by a poor choice in pairing. Silva was trying to win, so was Thales Leites. They were both trying to play to their strengths as anyone with a lick of sense would be doing.
