you can disable acpi when you install windows xp. I think you hit f5 during the begining of the setup.
I have not really heard of that issue but it wouldnt suprise me, but it also wouldnt suprise me if it worked too.
I would personally do windows xp right now. I dont know what kinda lan sharing you want to do or anything but I would think that xp would be adaquate.
I know this is the super nerdy time wasting answer but I would start with xp and if it works ok use it...if you have too many problems then switch.
Or are you actually gonna be buying an os?
