When I was in 9th grade, I wrote a short story for my honors English class for a short fiction assignment we had to read in class. I wrote a story about a character I always right about named Les. It was like the Divine Comedy but funny. My teacher liked it too much. She said it was the best story she ever got from a student. Everyone in my class thought it was hilarious. In retrospect, I don't think it was that good. Maybe it's cause I was 15, I dunno, but it was cliched and stupid.
To the point, my teacher had me read it to all her other classes because she thought it was better than anything anyone else had produced and as many people as possible needed to hear it. She said the first thing she thought of when she heard it was Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut. She told me I was a 15-year-old Vonnegut.
Every since then, I've fucking hated Vonnegut. I've read many of his books and shorts, and even though I know they were really good, I can't help but find them cliched and stupid.
