Even though your maternal grandfather doesn't have the gene, it still leaves you with a 1 in 4 chance that you could have the gene from your maternal grandmother, if we assume 50/50 odds of her carrying it. (I don't know the actual statistics on the bald gene, so it might be less) Do you have any maternal great uncles? Any older male maternal cousins? Also, try asking your maternal grandmother if her father or uncles were bald.
