Oh, dear. I've stirred a hornet's nest.

I see absolutely no reason for a remake in the first place, so who's playing Freddy is a moot issue. Yes, it's hard playing him (believe me, I've tried) and no one can match Robert's work. Though if you don't mind my getting philosophical, I think Freddy is a little more than the man who plays him- kinda like V for Vendetta. Freddy is the embodiment of our fears, both individually and collectively. He's literally everyone's worst nightmare since he knows what you're afraid of. And he gives a name to the abstract fear that lurks in the darkest corners of the human psyche - that primal dread of the mysterious, the unknown. Every culture has its bogeyman- Freddy is ours. Let him eat cake!
