Definitely get LEDs. They're solid state electronics made for stopping current in one direction so they'll last a hell of a lot longer. As for the shitty wiring blowing shit up, the only concern I'd have for the LED bulb would have to be the rectifier bridge, it's used to prevent the other half of the house AC from being blocked but I highly doubt it'll be affected since it's not made to resist the electricity at all.

If it does get damaged, expect to see some LED's on the bulb being half as bright or going out all together.
