If you've been reading my blog lately, I've been talking about a script I've been putting together called The Now People. Its nature is a tad unconventional, so I'm not really going to shop the script around to Hollywood production companies.

I've been shopping a treatment around for some time, but I've only gotten one response back. I've been thinking in the meantime, once the first draft is finished, to start coordinating a package to shop around to financiers. I've got an accomplished music video director interested in collaborating with me. This particular project will be on a larger scale than RoG's Zombie movie, but at the same time dealing with the same exploitation matter that RoG is dealing with. I have a couple of worries, though.

1.) I don't know if I should attempt to produce a movie when I haven't even spent time on a movie set. I have read a few books on producing Independent Films, most notably Christine Vachon's Shooting To Kill, which has really come in handy in explaining a lot about what happens on a movie set and what a producer really does. Experiences tend to be most rewarding when you don't really know what you're doing, but should I wait to do this kind of thing until I've had some on-set experience?

2.) I'm not totally comfortable of producing the whole thing by myself. I could handle coordinating the creative talent, but the administrative parts (film stock, budgeting, crew, dailies, etc.) would be a little more difficult. I'd rather work with someone who would have a better understanding with numbers.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do? Do you think I should go for it, or wait? Any advice is helpful.
