I have a huge boner for 20's - 40's era anything, so my opinion might be colored by it. But I liked the stories of every individual character. When I first saw it, I thought that it would just be a jumbled mess with the obscene number of characters but I watched it with my friend and we both loved it.
I don't know that it does too much to buck convention, but it's mad decent, I'd say. There are worse ways to spend your time, certainly. And it's on Netflix, I think? So it's relatively easy to watch.
I like the Ghost in the Shell world, but the characters never clicked with me.
