i believe "special" has fallen out of fashion and has been replaced by "exceptional," haha.
but i meant gifted as in "this is a student that either did very well on some tests at a young age or has a parent that makes enough of a fuss about how wonderfully intelligent their child is until the school puts them in the gifted program."
