The first play through you have to sacrifice souls to make a fighter powerful enough to get through the game the first time because the enemies are just too powerful. Sacrificing souls though makes your final boss Valkyrie. Once you beat the "C ending" boss then start a new game with all the gear from your first run through and can now win fights without sacrificing souls, which makes you fight the real final boss |
So think of it as a double length game, kind of more like how Castlevanis SotN springs a double length game on you.
