For the example you put y = x/(x^2 + 1), when x = 0, y= 0.
Setting x = 1, y = 1/2 and when x = -1, y = -1/2
Setting x = 2, y = 2/5 and when x = -2, y = -2/5
So since making x negative will in turn make y negative your example is symmetric about the origin
