Only a few come to mind for me:
1. rush hour
2. empire strikes back (which I don't know if that counts since it's a trilogy)
3. LOTR (also)
4. godfather 2 (I don't regard this as a trilogy, the 3rd one blew and doesn't exist)
5. scream 2

Anyway, yes, sequels tend to blow. There is always a chance, though, and that's what keeps me from killing myself.
