Qantas has rejected allegations from an organisation representing Australian aircraft engineers that its employees are being pressured to break maintenance procedures.

In a survey conducted by the Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association, three-quarters of the airline's engineers say they are pressured by management to take short cuts on safety.

The association's secretary, Steve Purvinas, says managers have asked staff to ignore holes in containers that are meant to be fireproof, and it is asking the federal government to investigate safety standards at Qantas.

But the airline says it would never compromise its standards.

Its head of engineering says the Association is making wild allegations during its bargaining process.

Oh man. I totally didn't need to read that before flying round the world with them, guys.
