George is from the Greek name Georgios, itself from the Greek word Georgos meaning "Earth Worker" or "Farmer".
Jim is a nickname for James, which is derived from the Latin Jacomus, which is from the name Iakobos, the Greek version of Jacob. Jacob is from the Hebrew name Yaakov, means "Takes by the heel" or "Supplanter".
