Rom hacking involves at least a cursory glance at a hex editor and the more aspects of the game that are hacked, the better. Human beings are 70%+ visual, therefore images should be involved. Images are harder to replace than text, and sound is harder to replace than images.
The only way you could impress me with a text hack is if you personally coded in your own pointers to extend lines, but as we've already established you're just using someone else's editor to make minor changes to a game. It requires a minimum of effort and skill in hacking, and is not impressive to both the rom-hacking community and anyone who would play it - with or without knowledge of how rom hacking works.
