Leon is an awesome movie. And the unsavoriness of the Matilda/Leon relationship is hugely exaggerated. If there's meant to be love there it's purely emotional, and aside from Matilda shooting Leon an awkwardly seductive look and telling a landlord that he's her "lover", there's nothing but a kind of naive romance.

In the international version Mathilda asks Leon to be "her first". He declines and Mathilda almost kills her self.
