well, having tasted it on its own the article is half right. MSG is an indescribable taste, but for damn sure you can tell something weird is on your tongue. I'd classify it as a new taste alltogether. The article is just stating that it's not sweet or salty or sour etc. I consider the stimulation of receptors in my tongue a taste.
