Old Jul 25th, 2003, 11:15 AM        Dick Chenney comes oout of hiding to fight back!
"The ability to criticize is one of the great strengths of our democracy. But those who do so have an obligation to answer this question: How could any responsible leader have ignored the Iraqi threat?"
-Fightin' Dick Chenney

Apart from a now typical logical formation, ie. It is your American right to criticize but crtiscism is unamerican, I personally want to answer this question with a question.

What threat?

We now have free run of the country. Our Army is there. We criticized UN inspectors for there failure to find anything when the Baath party rukled the country. Well, we rule it now. Where is the evdience, any evidence at all that Iraq was an immediate threat to us? And if the threat was long range, at some undetermined point in the future, aren't there a whole lot more places we better pre-empt right now for things they might do later?

the threat was clearly that hussain was converting the oil for food money to euros not dollars. everything else was smoke and mirrors.

Uh, excuse me, Iraq did pose a threat. Iraq did have illegal weapons. Remember those Al-Samoud missiles that were found in central Iraq? They were able to go longer than what was allowed - 90 miles longer - they could have reached Israel. If that is not a threat to the US, I don't know what is.

Although, to be fair, a resolution could have been accepted that would have forced Saddam to fire his missles 90 miles back - thus negating the advantage.

What I can't understand is why he has them in Central Iraq. He could have cut 90 miles of the flying distance and moved them 90 miles closer to Kuwait or whatever. So Damn Insane!

Then again... Saddam was 65, he would have been due for retirement this year, he wouldn't have been much of a threat once he retired.

Iraq posed enough of a threat - to it's own people. In fact, I would support the war more if WMD's were never found.

I find it highly unlikely that the number of civilian deaths under Hussein's tyranny would rival those deaths inflicted upon both sides of the armed conflict. For utilitarian purposese, feel free to try to substantiate your assertion with data.

How about a missle that can reach the US?

What? Are you serious? You really believe that?

And I don't get why we can't find them either. Its not like its a huge country or he had a year to ship them out or anything like that.

comeon blanco.. as many predicted i think it was extreemly likely that the weapons walked passed our troops in wheelbarrows as soon as the fighting started.. i bet ya a hundred bucks some were just waiting for us to start bombing so they could move the last 1% they had left from the inspections. not the average iraqi mind you.. the tiny fraction of radicals that we like to play up big in the media.

Good question! Mr. Clinton?

Link To Willie

This may well be some mud that the Republican's dug up in a "they did it first" gesture ( :shrug ) but the fact remains that Willie DID cut a bit of military and intelligence agency spending.
