Get some decks, records, a mixer with crossfader, decent headphones and practice. Technics 1200s are pricey but they never die and are the standard. Anything else you buy you'll probably end up replacing for 1200s down the road anyway if you stick with it. I know nothing about spinning CDs but I've got friends who do - any questions about that I could pass on to them if you like.

Do you play any instruments? Do you ever fuck around with any MIDI/audio software?

::Do you have any of your tracks online?

i play guitar and can 'sing,' but i used to do piano 'back in the day'

i can use goldwave and soundforge and zero-x beatcreator and have chopped down some songs to DDR time (1:30-1:48) with it, but only barely have used fruityloops...and that's the extent of my midi knowledge.

wreck was showing me some mp3 player device you can hook into a mixer a while back, but he's not online right now

*I'll upload the original and my shortened, slightly-remixed versions of songs now. gimme a sec

I'm trying to learn how to play a guitar. I got a free acoustic, and I started playing stuff on there. I bought one of those instructional things and it is going along great. As for the DJ, my brother's friend is a disc jockey. It is pretty simple stuff. If you buy the stuff, the money comes back really quick. I can get him to answer some of the questions you have if soundteset doesn't give them to you first.

I play bass and I use a CD that DJ's use called "Drummers guide to hiphop, house, new jack swing, hip house, Soca house. With a mixer you can start to make songs. there are some cheap programs that you can buy from http://www.cakewalk.com/djs.asp
but I think that you need to have a powerful computer or you will have problems.

These are some songs I've shortened into DDR time, while changing around measures and cutting some out so everything would flow betta. Or something. They're both here so you can compare.

DJ Stompy - Crazy
original | short

Melanie C. - I Turn To You
original | short

Paul Oakenfold - Firewalk
original | short

Simon & Milo - Sucks To Be You
original | short

I see what you're saying, but too often those are the same people that say people who use synthesizers and samplers are 'cheating' and not real musicians either because "those computers are doing all the work!!".

I think all electronic gear - decks included - are just tools and how you use them blah blah. I'd be quicker to call somebody who remixed a song I hated into a song I actually liked a musician before I'd call somebody a musician just because they can play the same 2 notes 30 times in a second on a guitar solo masturbation session.

I checked a couple of your links and they sound good Chojin - nothing jumps out in an obvious "that's where he cut it" way. What do you want to actually do when you say DJ though? Play other people's music at clubs? Remix? Produce and spin your own?

I don't think I understand Chojin's creations. I'm not familiar with any of the names and I don't know what the originals sound like. Has there been a big change made? Someone other than Chojin may have to clue me in as I suspect he will tell me to shut up. Just curious, are you able to load these into your dance machine? I'd like to program some polka up into that mugh.

The tracks Chojin did have been rearranged, and unless I'm dead wrong I believe the tempo has been adjusted. I think I heard some other effects, but I'm listening through laptop speakers right now so I don't trust my hearing. They've been remixed.

And thanks Prof.

Good job of shortening them up.

Do you make the steps for them too?
