I've just updated my big Nintendo Entertainment System piece with 5 new items bringing the list to a total of 50. If you've never checked it out before, now's a good time to catch up on some of the best and worst things to ever come from the NES era.

I own a Worlds Of Power novel, Blaster Master. Which is funny, because I had never played the game before I read it.

Oh man, thank you for creating a page about the Nintendo Championships, if only because now I have a place to whine about this:

I was in that competition. I made the Chicago semifinals. I even had the highest score going into my bracket, which meant I got to sit in the giant electronic throne and have my game projected on the giant screen like in The Wizard. And I totally choked. If I'd known those damn cartridges would be worth $20,000, I probably would have tried harder.

I also got a cheap baseball cap that feels like it's made of paper. It's sitting less than ten feet away from me, even after all this time.

Still, even though I missed out a cartridge that theoretically could be worth up to $20 grand, I still have fond memories of totally choking in front of hundreds of people, on a giant television screen that was larger than my house. Good times.

Nobody knew they'd be worth that much, but damned if I wouldn't have killed to play in those championships back then. I remember seeing The Wizard and thinking there's no way something that cool could ever happen. Anyway, thanks for reading the piece and sharing a little bit o' info about the event.

It was pretty cool, but mostly for the other stuff they had there. I remember they had a huge row of stations to play Super Mario 3, since it was brand new at the time. While everone waited for hours to play it, my friends and I played Double Dragon II for hours. You were supposed to move every 15 mintes and let someone else play, but everyone wanted to play Mario 3 so much we never had to move once. We ended up beating the game there at the event. Nintendo was also pushing the Power Pad pretty hard there, and I have the distinct memory of some kid falling down and hitting his head. The Nintendo people there looked terrified they would be sued, it was fantastic.

The actual competition was actually more terrifying than anything else, especially when I was up in that chair. I remember I had never played Rad Racer before then (Yeah, I don't know how that happened), and I crashed on the first stage and people in the crowd were laughing at me. Not fun for an eleven year old.
