hmm, maybe you took that the wrong way.. sorry if that sounded too cynical. i talk, chant, hold signs but have never needed a lawyer.. as a matter of fact i'm usually behind a camera recording free speech in all its glory.

Mayor asshole Bloomberg won't allow them to march, but you can stand outside the UN and freeze your psuedo-hippy asses off.

The word I get is because Bloomberg doesn't want to pa the NYPD for the overtime it would take to secure the march as opposed to just a standing rally. We have had a bunch of half essed demonstrations here latley (not all concerning Iraq) there are a bunch more scheduled, plus, St Patrick's Day parade is in about a month. This rally was thrown at the city at the last minute and there was no way to budget it in properly.

Bottom line: You can't march cuz bloomberg is too cheap to protect you.

To my understanding, the National Guard are being called in for the event. What does the NYPD pay for the day have to do with it then...?

Its usually NYPD that handles security for these things. I haven't heard anything about National Guard being used.
