Comrade Rocket, be a man, and tell her that you don't want to be her second banana. That is complete bullshit, and you should just go ask someone else, or go by yourself. You know she is going to ignoring you the whole time and fawning over this other guy, so at least have some self-respect and drop kick her. Seriously, because if you go with her you might as well have put your balls in a blender. Also, if she doesn't get the other guy all she will really think is that you are a great friend and that you'll always be there. Guess what? YOU DON'T WANT HER TO THINK YOU'LL ALWAYS BE THERE! See, if she knows that, then why would she want to date you or whatever? Instead, she'll just continue to abuse you. Make her actually miss you, make her realize you're not going to wait around for her forever.

So, don't go with her, she might have to go alone, and perhaps she'll actually come over and talk to you at the prom. If she doesn't, or if she gets mad over you not wanting to be the back-up, then she isn't worth your time. I'm saying this like I know you, which could be a mistake, because you might be really annoying and really ugly. If that's the case, I guess you should hold on for dear life. But, if you think you are more than just a loser, put your foot down and tell her you don't want to be a back-up, and it's either she goes with you or she can find someone else to be her patsy.
