Oh yeah, definitely mention what categories you would most like to write in (video games, movies, comics, music). This doesn't guarantee you would be assigned that particular category, but we'll do our best to accommodate everybody.
As for criteria, it's whatever you feel like writing about as long as it hasn't already been covered in the Weeklies section.
