Crisis Averted.

I turned up at the polling booth and gave them my name, and when they couldn't find it on the list they used my previous enrollment from my old address. The wonders of technology!

Obviously I voted for the Socialist Alliance party. Without my vote they would take a pretty large drop in their personal percentages.

It is illegal not to vote, and they fine you $20 if you don't. I failed to vote once before (I was going through a VOTING IS WORTHLESS phase... well I guess it sort of still is, but I have changed my reasoning) and they send you a form to fill out explaining why you didn't. I filled in the blank space with "had a headache" and that seemed to do the trick since I wasn't fined.

If you aren't enrolled (I was enrolled at a different location - are you following?) but turn up to vote, then you get a ten second head start before they set the dogs onto you.

I don't think it should be illegal to abstain. I guess you can turn up and draw a cock on the ballot paper, but that still means you have to put on trousers and go to a polling station.
