I'm gonna repeat some of what helm has already said but with variation.
if you want to hear the originators of each genre just go with these:
New York: Suffocation
Florida: Cannible Corpse/Death
Sweden: Entombed (early only)
They all started around the same time.
If you want to get into all that cross over classification of swedish death metal it gets pretty sticky. As far as i'm concerned there are two basic styles of the melodic swedish sound. Both of wich are very differnt form the true death metal sound of entombed. there is the melodic thrash like sound (derived from at the gates last album, 1996) and then there is truer melodic sound started by At the gates, Dark tranquility and others in the early ninteys.
the melodic thrash bands are all rather new and include:
The Haunted
Carnal forge
Corporation 187
etc.
the true(r) melodic sound can be found in such bands as
Soilwork---------------------------------------------------------------Sweden
in flames--------------------------------------------------------------Sweden
Dark tranquility------------------------------------------------------Sweden
Amon Amarth---------------------------------------------------------Sweden
Arch Enemy-----------------------------------------------------------Sweden
The Crown-----------------------------------------------------------Sweden
Carcass (heartwork only) -------------------------------------Sweden/england
Witchery------------------------------------------------------------- Sweden
Children of Bodom------------------------------------------------ Finland
God Dethroned ----------------------------------------------------Holland
Beyond the sixth seal ------------------------------------------Massachusets
The Year of Our Lord-------------------------------------------Massachusets
All the above bands are from very ranging time periods and locations but they play a version of the melodic death metal. i also it would be to much effort to separate the more melodic albums.
I think i used the word true too much but o well.
hope it makes sense.
o yea and i just pronounce the nu as new.
