Don't know much about being a high school or college student looking for a job, do we?
I'm not talking about all companies drastically reducing wages. I'm saying that I benifit directly from employers having a minimum limit, because if the limit weren't in place, it is likely that many employers that hire students like me would pay us less. This is because there would be workers, as stated in the original article, that want to "offer their services" for less. The bottom line is that there are often more workers than jobs, and in a situation like mine (the only one that matters to me) it is the employees, not the employers, that need to make competetive. I am very much in favor of the government saying you may not offer too low a price for your work because either someone would make a lower offer than I do or I would have to make an offer lower than what I am getting with minimum wage.
As for unions, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, and the like (i.e. the companies paying minimum wage) don't hire a lot of union workers here.
On the whole, I am obviously not thinking on a macro level, because that is not what applies to me. I am concerned with my wallet, how full it is, and how fast it fills up. Bottom line is, it fills faster with a minimum wage than without.
