I've always enjoyed writing character sketches like this. I wrote this one the way I did for a couple of reasons: First, I usually have a hard time expanding on my ideas, and really getting into characters and, in particular, dialogue. This type of writing lends itself more to description. Second, I find the concept of not being able to escape something, or change yourself, very fascinating, and it's something I think all of us deal with on one level or another. I feel the anonymity of the character adds to that, and helps create that empty feeling. I like anonymous characters, because I think it makes them easier to relate to.
