I don't know when you graduated, I graduated in 95 (OMG I'm so dated), and they used to make everybody take it. It was like an Armed Services Placement test, and it was administer by people from all the local recruiting centers.
It was all quite amusing... surreal now looking back on it. I purposely tried to screw mine up as much as possible, just so I wouldn't get any pushy-recruitment phone calls.
I told my English teacher that I tried to bite it hard on the ASVAB for the above reason and she got pissed.
