I just studied Aristotle's De Anima (On the Soul) in a class. In brief, Aristotle has a conception of soul that is not immortal but is in a sense a "life force", kind of like what is being talked about here. This energy thing strikes me as vitalism - the elan vital is kinda out of vogue, non?
