It's not so bad since you're just hurting yourself.
I've got a couple of warts on my finger tip, which makes playing bass a mess. Since none of the chemicals and freezers got rid of them, I've started using sand paper or a file to get rid of them for a couple of days. A couple of times I've gotten carried away and drew blood.
