The FF series has become a metaphor for what is wrong with the videogame industry as a whole. It sucks the dick of the casual gamer but makes them feel like they're hardcore, wasting precious development time and resources that could be put toward new ideas. It's a vicious cycle but its grip is waning which each pathetic release.
