McAuliffe is done after this, me thinks. After the 2002 mid-cycle disaster, and now this, he has no chance. Either way, if Dean some how wins in 2004, McAuliffe will get booted. If Dean loses bad, he could sit back and say "well I told ya so!", but chances are, he'll be gone.
And as this article points out, Dean is McAuliffe's creation (it was actually, to give credit where it belongs, Novak who pointed me in this direction with a recent article). The front-loaded primary cycle was intended to weed out guys like Dean, cuz they were never expected to be capable of raising the necessary funds. Well, Dean HAS done it, like a Republican, through small donors en masse. And since Dean is the most popular candidate now, he will sweep the primary session created by McAuliffe. Justice.
