If he doesn't like the Velvets he may have a brain defect. They are one of the best. The remaster is really nice; I picked it up right when it came out and have spun it a ton of times. It's definitely worth getting.
Also, Loose Fur is sort of a Kraut Rock type band by Jim O'Rourke and Jeff Tweedy. It's really awesome, and if you're a Wilco fan at all I recommend it. And even if you aren't you should still download it at least.
