AL GORE DISAGREES WITH SCIENTISTS

To see this as something more than a disaster movie is silly.

That's why I thought it was hysterical when it became public knowledge the administration had asked Nasa not to discuss climatalogical issues raised by the film. It was even funnier when they were forced to back off.

I think if Gore is associating himself with this film, and I'm not at all certain he is, that's ridiculous. If however, anyone wants to use this film to increase interest in and awareness of climate change, I think that's a good idea. We're doing that here at the Museum, having forums about which things are real in the movie (periodic major shifts in the gulf stream and their impactr on global climates) and which things are sbaurd (the speed at which the temperature drops in NYC). We did the same thing when Jurrasic park came out and taught a loty of kids a lot of thing about dinosaurs, DNA and cloning, and you know what? Not one of them got confused and thought we could bring dinosaurs back to life.
