have you tried right clicking on the shortcut to run the game, going to "properties", clicking "compatibility", checking "run this program in compatibility mode for" and choosing "windows 98/ME" in the box under that?
edit: n/m it seems to work fine for me without that crap, and i got XP too :/
what do you mean by "put a level", are you playing the single player or something?
