No, it was invented by the British, along with sex, chocolate, tea, gunpowder and everything else good. That's why their empire lasted forever and they are still shouldering the white man's burden with ease.
Oh, and the wanking joke, they invented that too. And the laughing emoticon, without which no one would ever know when someone else was being funny.
I'm kidding, of course. The British have much to recomend them. Just not their food, their teeth or Phagroah.
