It was funny, but there is a problem:

(1) The Kent State NTL guard was fending off violent protestors, they were throwing rocks at them and int he previosu week the ROTC building was burnt down by suspected protestors. The shots were fired after guardsmen were spooked by rocks being thrown at them.

(2) Slavery was necessary for a robust agrarian society until the invention of the cotton gin the requirements on labor were pretty insane.

Even in Europe forms of slavery (e.g. serfdom) had been required and were in place well into the 19th century just as slavery was in place in the US, but there was not large enough of a local population to have a system similar to serfdom.
