I know 2 guys who are roomates in a regular sized house and they each have an australian shepperd/black lab cross puppy and apparently they don't get so big that you'd need a bigger place for em, so that might work. I don't know how small a miniature one would be though :O

I've got an aussie/ border collie mix, and My mom has an aussie/black lab mix. Both of them are only about 65 pounds, and they're the smartest damned dogs I've seen. (Exluding a wolf mix we had a while back, but I'd never recommend one of them to anyone. LOTTA work.)
